How old is the production of wines in the Loire Valley?

Good like an old wine.
The answer

It's a very old story, because the making of wines in the Loire valley dates back more than 2000 years!

The history of Loire wines goes back almost 2000 years, when the vine was introduced by the Romans. Another Roman who became a monk (then Bishop of Tours) also contributed to the development of Loire wines, a little later, from the 5th century: it is Saint-Martin. Viticulture then developed along the Loire from the 9th to the 12th century thanks to monasteries and abbeys such as Marmoutiers, Bourgueil or Fontevraud.
