The first bottles of the 2019 vintage of Vouvray are reaching wine shops shelves. But there are still few 2019 Vouvray bottles out there for tasting. It is therefore still a little early to comment on the quality of the 2019 vintage of Vouvray wines.
We will be commenting on that later. Thanks for your patience.
Regarding the previous Vouvray vintages, let’s go straight to the facts : since 2015, the winegrowers of Vouvray have produced vintages of high quality, four years in a row.
Let’s start with the 2018 Vouvray vintage : a superb year for the dry Vouvray wines. The intensity of the sunshine gave nice chenin grapes, well concentrated in sugar at harvest time. Leading to rich and round wines, with well-defined fruitiness.
The same goes for the divine 2017 Vouvray vintage where the early harvest produced dry, suave Chenin wines with nice levels of alcohol.
Of course, 2016 was an average year in terms of yields, due to episodes of frost at the beginning of spring. But regarding the quality of this Vouvray vintage, a nice amount of sunshine in the back season made it possible to obtain optimal grape maturity.
The year 2015 also produced very, very good white Loire Valley wines. A 2015 vintage with a very hot summer which produced round and full wines.
